Personal Life
Dan was born in Syosset, New York and is a lifelong resident of Northport, New York, where he was raised by an extended Irish and Italian family of teachers, cops, and nuns.
Dan attended public school in Northport, graduated from Northport High School, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts. He played Division I Men’s Soccer and Lacrosse and was Captain of the Men’s Soccer team.
Dan comes from a patriotic family. His father served in the US Army in Korea, his grandfather served in the US Army during World War I, and his other grandfather served in the New York City Police Department during the Great Depression, walking the 6th precinct in Greenwich Village in Manhattan.
Dan and his 2 brothers all served in the US Navy during Gulf War I and Bosnia. One sister is an intensive care nurse, and the other sister is a speech pathologist in the public school system.
After his military service, Dan attended The University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business and earned High Honors while receiving a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a Concentration in Finance.
Dan lives with his wife Genieve, his two children, and two cairn terriers in Northport. Genieve’s living grandparents and extended family continue to reside in Colombia and Panama.
Military Service
Dan first volunteered for military service in 1986, through the Navy ROTC program. During his time at Holy Cross, he was greatly impacted and inspired by the military events in Panama in December 1989. Dan was selected for Navy SEAL training after college and was Class Leader of Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training Class 173. While Dan was Class Leader, he jointly set the class 2-mile ocean swim record.
Dan was assigned to SEAL Team TWO in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He completed one tour overseas during the Bosnian War, conducted numerous Joint Training Operations with NATO allies, and specialized in Joint Special Warfare Submarine Operations.
Professional Life
After graduating with High Honors from what is now called The Booth School of Business at The University of Chicago, Dan spent 20 years in finance and investing. He began as an investment banker, advising some of the world’s largest media and telecommunications companies. Dan moved on to become an institutional investor, in which he invested capital on behalf of public pension funds, university endowments, and other institutions and individuals. He now runs a small investment and advisory business in New York.
Dan serves as a Committeeman for the Town of Huntington Republican Committee, and assisted both former Governor Mitt Romney and former
Mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani in their respective Presidential Campaigns. Dan is active with the Navy SEAL Community, assisting with recruiting.
