New York State Assembly candidate Alan Zwirn was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He’s resided in Rockaway for the past 25 years with his wife, Dianna, and his two beautiful daughters.
After graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School, Alan attended Brooklyn College where he was a member of the swim team, first receiving a Bachelors Degree in the Arts and later, a Masters Degree in Education. Alan served the New York City Public Schools as an educator for 34 years and has since retired. Following his public school teaching career, Alan taught at both the Undergraduate and Graduate levels, including 8 years mentoring New York City Teaching Fellows in Renewal Schools while working with a local university.
In addition to his passion for teaching, and giving back to the city he loves, Alan has a love for music. He is an avid musician, playing the keyboard, guitar, and bass.
Alan is an active volunteer in the Rockaway community. He currently serves as president of the Rockaway Republican Club, is a member of the GrayBeards, served on the Board of Directors of West End Temple for seven years, and assisted Scholars Academy with production of their student musicals for two years. Every December for the past nine years, Alan has been backstage directing and stage-managing the annual “L’il North Pole” event, an outdoor show that raises awareness and funds for Juvenile Diabetes Research.
